My first time becoming afraid

Since I was a baby, I remember having a huge fear of anything blood related.

This is true back then as much as it is now. I'm not sure why I developed this fear. I know I had to go through surgery a couple of times when I was an infant...

Could that be the reason? I can't say. Fears are irrationals, after all

But we won't be speaking of that. Instead, we'll be talking of the first time I remember becoming afraid

So: how did it start... ah, right.

There was a PS1 in the house. It was in my room, and I was only allowed to play it for an hour every 2 days.

My father also liked to play on the PS1, so he would often get in my room and play, for hours.

Except, he didn't like the fact that I would be there to watch. Too much time looking at screens, he would say.

So his solution was simple: to play horror games. This way, I would get scared and stay out of my room when he wanted to play

It didn't work. I would get scared a lot, but I just didn't had anything else to do, so I would stay anyway.

That's how I remember the first time being afraid of the dark. I would remember the monsters from the games he would play, and I was afraid they would hide in the dark, waiting for me to cross, and snatch me

I remember a specific game that made me scared properly. I thought many times to play that game now. I never found the effort to do it for good though.

This is the game we're talking about. What a joke. I think it had a sequel at some point.

There was a very specific scene that made me scared. There was some sort of alleyway in front of you, and a weird noise would come out periodically.

If you were to cross the alleyway, a cutscene would play. A monster would show up from nowhere, making a lot of noise, and then the gameover screen would appear.

In your backpack, you had a crossbow and a poison jar. You were supposed to combine them to make poisonus bolts. From out the alleyway, you would notice a small part of the creature popping out whenever the noise would be heard.

By shooting the creature, it would run away, and you could cross the alleyway safely

My father got stuck in that place for a long time. He would try to combine the crossbow with the poison, then he would cross, and he would be attacked by the monster, every time

Except, if you combine the two items, and then make the monster appear, the game would get stuck in the gameover screen until you reset the entire game

In my mind, the monster was so powerful it was corrupting the game and trying to get out

From that moment, I started being afraid of the dark, and I kept feeling like that for a long time

Even now, I get scared easily, I stay away from most horror games

What a mess!

Ah! I found the moment. Here it is

I didn't manage to find footage of what happens when you mess up. If you do, please send it to me!

Do you have any memory that reminded you of something you became afraid of later on?
